            2. Synoptic situation for 100000z Jan 09, to include regional

          
            near-gale wind events and weather hazards.

          
            A. West med: a strong area of high pressure over central Europe

          
            ridges westward, interacting with an area of low pressure south

          
            of Sicily producing a sub-gale (23 to 28 gusts 33) east-northeasterly

          
            flow over western Genoa, lions, unicorn and Valencia nato opareas.

          
            The remainder of the region will experience a light to moderate

          
            westerly flow. A low pressure center over Morocco will produce

          
            inclement weather for Valencia, unicorn, Oran, bougie, and Alboran

          
            nato opareas. Seas 12 ft(3.7m) or greater are expected in the west

          
            Med.

          
            B. Cent med: a strong area of high pressure over central Europe

          
            ridges over the central Mediterranean interacting with a low

          
            pressure center south of Sicily, producing a sub-gale (25 to 30

          
            gusts 35) east-southeasterly flow over boot, ionian, and eastern

          
            sidra. The remainder of the south central Med will experience

          
            moderate westerly winds. Expect rainshowers and thunderstorms

          
            throughout the region. Seas 12 ft (3.7m) or greater are expected

          
            in the cent Med.

          
            C. East med: an area of high pressure over central Europe ridges over

          
            the eastern Mediterranean, interacting with low pressure south of

          
            Sicily producing a sub-gale (25 to 30 gusts 35) northeasterly flow

          
            for the aegean and an east-southeasterly flow for bomba nato oparea.

          
            The remainder of the region maintains a moderate easterly flow.

          
            Expect rainshowers and thunderstorms for Jason and bomba as the area

          
            of low pressure over the central Med tracks eastward. No high winds

          
            or seas 12 ft (3.7m) or greater area expected in the east Med.

          
            D. Black sea: an area of high pressure over central Europe interacts

          
            with low pressure over western Russia to produce sub-gale northerly

          
            winds (20 to 25 kts with gusts to 30 kts) across Danube and western

          
            Georgia with westerly winds over southeastern Georgia. No high winds

          
            and no seas 12 ft (3.7m) or greater are expected in the black sea.

          
            E. Baltic sea: an area of high pressure over central Europe ridges north

          
            interacting with a frontal system over the North Sea. As this system

          
            tracks east-northeast expect a moderate westerly flow across the

          
            southern Baltic. No high winds or seas 12 ft (3.7m) or greater

          
            are expected in the Baltic Sea.
